Stitched Embroidered Image Transfer

     Teacher: Patricia Rodgers
This is a technique that you will not see anywhere else. We will transpose a color copy image to be used as an applique and then enhance the image with stitching. This is a great way to use family photos, pets or landscapes to enhance fabric, towels, or quilts. Sewing machines will be available for use in class.

Stained Glass Quilts
     Teacher: Bobbie Bergquist
Do you love the look of Stained Glass but are intimidated by applique? Learn a quick, easy and fun way to make stained glass quilts. You will be able to convert stained glass patterns and apply this simple technique. You no longer have to use raw edge, registration marks, paper piecing, reverse applique, satin stitch, fusible web, etc. Your quilts will be soft, not stiff. You will learn how to piece, stitch and quilt at the same time reducing your stitching by 50%. This workshop is fun for everyone, and appropriate for all.

Mitering Your Corners

Showcasing the Art in Your Home
     Teacher: Nancy Asmus
Using pictures you brought from home of design elements, Nancy will teach you to make one-of-a-kind projects. In this lecture class Nancy will teach various sewing techniques, notions and materials used to accomplish these special projects. What do we mean by “design elements” – to name a few, wallpaper patterns, drapery fabric, woodcarvings, antiques, special pictures; whatever is special to you that you would like to capture and emphasize in perhaps a tablecloth or a wall hanging. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn home decor creativity with a punch. Supplies: Pictures from your home of design elements.

Drawing With the Needle

     Teacher: Patricia Rodgers
In this workshop, students will learn to use free motion stitching as the tool to create sketches, threads and textures. This workshop encourages you to explore the unique quality of line produced only by a sewing machine. Learn to draw grass, leaves and trees. Students will learn the subtle differences between free motion stitching and free motion embroidery. Using free motion stitching, students create elements like trees and shrubbery on Solvy, then combine with more stitchery for a rich fantasy landscape.

Quilt-As-You-Go
     Teacher:Bobbie Bergquist
Are your quilt blocks different sizes? Do your quilt tops shift? Do you have trouble finding a flat surface large enough and at a comfortable height to baste your quilt layers together? If you would like an easy way to make a large quilt that is flat, square and even, then this is a workshop for you. Discover how to prepare and assemble quilt blocks using this “Quilt as You Go” method, which will permit you to see all your seams as you sew. No guess work here. A perfect way to create large quilted projects. You will learn how to assemble any size or multiple size blocks. We will join four blocks in class.
Class fee: $25, Kit fee: $25 includes top, marbled fabric, sashing, batting, backing, binding, full instructions to complete 7" and 12" blocks.

Family Heirloom Conservation and Restoration

She’s back. Again this year, Nancy Boomhower will tell you about your old quilt and share with you ideas for restoration and conserving your treasure. Not only will she review your quilts, but she will be bringing quilts from her conservancy to share with you. Don’t miss this unique opportunity. Bring no more than 3 quilts for her to review.

Winner's Bouquet

Never fear curves again. . . . With this pattern and templates you will have perfect curve piecing and matching intersections with ease. The key is in the cutting. Wait till you wrap your eyes around this lovely wallhanging project. Prerequisite – must have prior knowledge of rotary cutting.

Fabric Portraits
     Teacher: Gerry Benton
In this class each student will have an opportunity to design a portrait. The portrait will be designed using one range of color and thread painting. Try to select skin tones close to the shading in the photo. Good fabric choices for this project would be Moda, Hoffman batiks, hand dyed and very small prints.
  
You may also select photos of your favorite pet. The portraits may be enhanced by using embellishments such as buttons, appliques and hot fix crystals.

How Much Is My Treasure Worth?
     Teacher: Pauline Fisher
Have you ever wanted to know if your treasured quilt is worth $$$$$? Pauline will use her 25 years of quilt making and 2 years experience as a Professional Appraiser of Quilt Textiles to evaluation the condition, workmanship, wow factor, among other things of your quilt. Your evaluation will include 2 to 4 pictures for you to take with you.

Can I Sew That? I've Only Made Quilts!
     Teachers: Polly Swanson and Penny Langsdorf /Silhouette Patterns
Every quilt needs a good foundation, and it’s true for garments, too. In this lecture course you will learn the foundation of good fit: length, circumference and depth. What do fabric and pattern elements tell me about how a garment will fit or why didn’t a garment turn out the way I expected? Don’t wait to sew – just use your new information to make choices that save you time and give you a successful fit.

Discharge Dyeing

Have you ever wanted your dark fabrics to have a special look – maybe shaded areas that you can’t piece in. In this demo class you will see how to use bleach and bleach paste to discharge (remove) color from dark fabric and get that perfect look for your project.

Jewels of Cloth: Vest or Door Art
     Teacher: Pat Rodgers
Learn how to texturize and manipulate a rich palette of materials in order to quilt, embroider and embellish fabric all in one operation. In this workshop, students will learn techniques of scrunching, flash from trash, hangie-down parts, and applique without satin stitch. The class gives students enough time to focus on the sewing techniques, design and complete a piece of fiber art destined for a garment or a panel for the door.

Marbling & Painting on Fabric Using Tsukineko Inks
     Teacher: Bobbie Bergquist
Are you looking for something different in fabrics? Would you like to design your own? Why not join us and learn to marble your own fabrics? This class which will teach you two different ways to marble fabric. You will also learn how to use inks to color fabric and prevent bleeding, techniques for creating your own border fabric, ways to expand your stash, add colors missing from fabrics and so much more. You will no longer be limited to using fabric off the rack. Supplies: Wear old clothing. Latex gloves (ink is water based and cleans up with soap & water). 1 large zip lock bag, trash bag, tooth picks, can of shaving cream (light or unscented if possible, Dollar Store works best) plastic coffee stirrer from fast food restaurant, Popsicle stick or similar tool, small paint brushes, or any other tool you would like to try, optional specialty fabrics to try.
