| Make a photocopy of a person in color or black and white. The face area
needs to be a minimum of at least 10 inches from chin to forehead, not including
hair. The larger the photocopy the easier it will be to quilt. (Copy stores can
enlarge a photo to poster size.) The photocopy for the Bri portrait was 18
inches square. Range of skin tone fabrics. At least eight fat quarters (more would be better) of graduated fabrics of one color from light to dark such as blues, purples, browns, oranges, etc. Hand dyes, Modas, Hoffman batiks, very small prints that read solid or solid fabrics work very well. These fabrics will be used for shading for the face, hair and clothing. You can also translate the photo in full color using several\ fabrics. |
